MEET THE INSTRUCTORS

Harrison Bernstein is the founder and Executive Director of Soldiers To Sidelines (STS), a non-profit organization that helps the military community become character-based sports coaches in their communities. After resigning from coaching professional football, he dedicated himself fully to the STS mission. Harrison has coached football and sports performance at the NFL, NCAA Division I, II, III, and high school levels. He taught in the master's program of Exercise Science at George Washington University for seven years. A graduate of Johns Hopkins University with a BA in Economics, he was captain of the football team, earned All-American honors for three years, and was named Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1997. He authored "The Everyday Coach: Harnessing the Magic of Influence," providing it free to STS Soldier Coaches and donating all profits to STS. Harrison lives in Lewes, DE, with his wife, Laura Olendeski, and their son, Keturi Bernstein.

Johannah Zabal, MS, CSCS, NSCA - CPT

Johannah, “Coach Jo,” comes from a diverse athletic background, with a demonstrated history of coaching in high school, collegiate & private industry for over 20 years. She is currently a contract Strength & Conditioning Specialist for the Army at Fort Liberty.

Coach Jo has a passion for helping & guiding people. She strives to embody the word “coach,” which is in its origin, a carriage, something that brings a person from one point to another on their journey. Her identification with sport, teamwork, competition and the discipline that fuels all of those areas, steered her toward this career. Jo fell in love with the art of coaching & her pursuit to be a lifelong learner, a better communicator & an inspiring coach drives her every day.

Toby Johnson is a senior executive with 20+ years of leadership experience in consumer products, including strategic sales, brand building, and general management. Her career began as an Army Aviator and Apache helicopter pilot, serving with the 3rd Infantry Division during the 2003 invasion of Iraq, where her unit received a Presidential Unit Citation.

After transitioning from the military, Toby spent 13 years at PepsiCo, leading large teams and managing P&L for multiple brands. She later led the sales division for Campbell’s $4B snacks business and served as COO of Black Rifle Coffee Company, driving 100%+ growth and overseeing their successful IPO. Toby is now President of Clean Simple Eats, a mission-driven functional foods company.

Toby is passionate about leading high-performing teams and driving growth. She holds a BS from the United States Military Academy and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Toby and her fiancé, Ben, a Navy officer, reside in Salt Lake City with their golden retriever, Bogie.

Jennifer S. Baker became the Director of Athletics and Recreation at Johns Hopkins on August 6, 2019. In just over five years, she has elevated the program to new heights, with five national championships and 53 conference titles, including a record 15 in 2023-24. Under her leadership, Johns Hopkins won its first two Learfield Directors' Cup titles in 2022-23 and 2023-24.

Baker’s tenure has seen 16 national championships, 16 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarships, 102 Academic All-America honors, and 292 All-America recognitions. She also developed a strategic plan for 2025, focusing on Competitive Excellence, Student-Athlete Experience, and Community Building to fulfill the department’s mission to “Be More.”
